ACTIVITIES AT TIMBER WWolf PawLF LODGE!

You can just rest and relax, or enjoy activities at
TIMBER WWolf PawLF LODGE, and in the area. We have organized programs for both the young, and the "young at heart". You're invited to visit with our family and other guests at the snack bar in our main Lodge, on the deck overlooking the lake or in our screened porch, that has seating for up to 40 people, great for a family potluck or group gathering. Shop for unique "wolf country" gifts crafted by local artisans in our very own gift shop. Our swimming beach is sandy, with a gradual grade and no drop-off.

You can fish from our docks, or explore Bear Island Lake, it's numerous bays and islands. You can play horseshoes, swing at our two playgrounds or borrow books and games from the lodge. We have hiking and nature trails here on our 75 acres and we are surrounded by Superior National and Bear Island State Forests, where you'll find lots of other trails for hiking, biking, birding, skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling.

In addition to all the activities you can enjoy here on our property, numerous others abound nearby. The charming town of Ely has wonderful shopping and restaurants. The International Wolf Center is located here in Ely, as is the Dorothy Molter Museum.  We're less than ten minutes away from two nine hole golf courses, and the 18 holes of Giants Ridge are just a short drive away.  Nearby Tower hosts the Soudan Underground Mine as well as the Fortune Bay Casino. At the mine, the MINOS project is a special part of the park. MINOS is an amazing research project going on in an underground lab. This advanced research project is a joint project between the MN University, Fermi Lab in IL, and the MINOS collaborating universities. For additional information, see above and following links: MN High Energy Physics, The Story of the Neutrino . We are also just a short drive from Eveleth, the home of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame, and from the Iron World Discovery Center in Chisolm. A favorite side trip of many guests is to the Vince Shute Bear Sanctuary.

Our area holds many special treasures, and another is the legacy of Sigurd Olson and Listening Point, where he lived and did most of his writing. For more information, please visit the Listening Point Foundation website.

Another favorite is 'Emily's Burntside Heritage Tours'. This great tour of Burntside Lake is not only fun, but also educational, with lots of local information. (Also fun for a romantic date!).   We are frequently graced with a viewing of Northern Lights. These displays can happen at any time of the year, and can be spectacular. We recently came across a very interesting site about the "Aurora Borealis". Check it out! Spaceweather.  Our area is world famous for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). The natural wonder of its beauty and wilderness is fundamental to what makes this area so unique and attractive. In fact, National Geographic recently named the Boundary Waters as one of the 50 greatest places of a lifetime, a "must see destination".
